The Clinic for Oral, Maxillo, and Facial Plastic Surgery, Katharinen Hospital in Stuttgart provides patients in the Stuttgart and Neckar area with a complete range of oral and maxillofacial treatment services. As well as classic oral surgery, trauma, orthognatic and cancer surgery including techniques of microvascular tissue transfer and reconstruction are also carried out here. Facial plastic and reconstructive surgery similarly plays an important role in our work. We have been practicing implant dentistry for over 20 years.

Our role as a maxillofacial center means that we place implants in situations of local atrophy or in defect sites. We perform lateral and vertical augmentation procedures including sinus lift procedures and distraction osteogenesis in order to reconstruct complex defects in conjunction with dental implants. We use autogenous bone from the jaw region when rebuilding the alveolar crest in single tooth gaps and distal extension situations. In reconstruction of severely atrophic maxilla and mandibles as well as large edentulous spaces, however, a complex treatment strategy using bone from the iliac crest is often employed. In complex situations implants are often placed in a staged approach, enabling a better result in terms of osseointegration and handling of pink esthetics.

ITI Scholarship Program
ITI scholars at our clinic are introduced to the entire field of maxillofacial surgery by assisting our surgeons in the operating room and during consulting hours. They participate in every phase of implant treatment including preoperative planning, surgical reconstruction, implant placement and prosthetic rehabilitation. Due to insurance regulations in Germany, ITI scholars are not able to treat their own patients using implant dentistry procedures.

Scholarship Center Requirements
To take full advantage of the Scholarship year the ITI Scholar must be able to communicate proficiently in German to B2 level as approved by a recognized language school such as the Goethe Institute.
